That shit is dope!
Basically I start knitting one sock, and then when it's at the ankle (I do them toe-up) I start knitting the other sock from the other end of the ball. It means I need more needles, but I never end up worrying about running out of yarn, and I get as much sock as possible that way. It takes me 1 - 2 weeks to do a pair if I'm not working on anything else and I stay focused. But that's rare.
Yeah, bad summer for gardens. There just wasn't enough heat for anything to ripen.
